Herring Law Group’s New Santa Barbara Office

Herring Law Group is now opening its Santa Barbara office at 559 San Ysidro Road, Suite G.  We expect to be furnished and fully operational by October 1, 2016.  Of course, we will remain committed to our Ventura County office, clients, and staff.  Our formal Santa Barbara presence will help us better serve in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties, too.

I have enjoyed practicing in these counties from the beginning of my career.  At Lord, Bissell & Brook, I litigated insurance cases arising from oil production in the Santa Barbara County offshore waters and backcountry.  Settlement conferences with Judge Dodds were arranged so that our Lloyd’s of London underwriters could attend from twelve hours away.  I later worked on business and real property suits in San Luis Obispo County, where Judge Burke was a favorite.

As I built my family law specialty on that civil litigation foundation, I began practicing more regularly in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties.  In 2002 I was retained for the post-appellate work in the Santa Barbara County post-marital agreement case, Marriage of Friedman (2002) 100 Cal.App.4th 67.  I believe we presented then-newbie Judge Eskin with his first family law trial!

In 2003, I began the San Luis Obispo County-based case, Marriage of Starkman (2005) 129 Cal.App.4th 659 (rev. den.)  It resulted in California’s seminal “family law/estate planning transmutation” opinion. Commissioner Perry presided in the trial court, providing thoughtful, insightful, and often creative suggestions and rulings.  Over my career I have litigated before approximately 75 – 100 different judicial officers, and he remains one of the most welcoming, fair, and professional.

HLG’s other professionals will also be at home in our new office.  Ruston Imming previously practiced family law (sometimes against me!) at the highest levels with his prior Santa Barbara firm.  Cassie Glanville previously worked in multiple Santa Barbara family law settings, and in 2012 she was awarded the McLafferty Scholarship by the Santa Barbara Women Lawyer’s Foundation.  Certified Paralegal, Cyndi Hitsman, previously worked for Judge Herman and also served as president of the Santa Barbara County Paralegals’ Association.

Herring Law Group is excited to reinforce our commitment to family law in the 805 through the addition of our Santa Barbara office.
